I’m responsible for creating ‘evergreen’ content that doesn’t go out-of-date. All content must be engaging and educational, prioritising research and web writing skills.

I research varied topics to produce engaging content that increases the website audiences of fifteen clients. I’m highly skilled in creating versatile content, and have a keen eye for detail in editing others work. Elected and twice re-elected by my peers, I marketed the relaunch of the student-run online media presence. Duties included forging links with other media societies, creating a brand image and organising a campus launch party. During my time in office, website visits more than tripled and I wrote well-received news and arts content.

I had to have the initiative to counsel vulnerable students, particularly those from other cultures who felt ostracised because of their sexuality. I dealt with stressful situations calmly and with a positive attitude. I also marketed events, utilising social networks to ensure strong audience numbers.

This role involved secretarial duties, such as filing, dealing with all incoming calls, typing up documents and correspondence, managing the schedule and bank payments. I was trusted to witness legal document signings and sort client’s possessions in the event of their demise. I commanded a high attention to detail and treated vulnerable clients with due respect.

Merit, MA Creative Writing

As well as providing me with a thorough grounding in the mechanics of editing and publishing, my degree work taught me prioritisation, organisational and analytical skills. I frequently presented work to seminar groups, which developed communication proficiency. In addition, I managed a blog where I posted my writing to gain reader response.

For my dissertation project, I created a collection of pieces on the theme of humankind’s place in the Universe. I showcased a variety of tones, forms and styles, whilst maintaining the desired contextual unity. I was awarded a high Merit grade, and would be excellently placed to apply this editing, drafting, formatting, proofreading and creative knowledge in my career.

In addition to improving my education, this degree taught me valuable life skills. To study abroad I travelled alone to a foreign country and forged a successful schedule of focused study and unique travel experiences. I became self-sufficient and the new experiences abroad encouraged  my writing and reading to become more adventurous and informed.

Further Information

I manage my own blog of creative writing: I organise my time to produce ideas, draft, edit and finalise collections of   short stories and poetry. My work has been published in several University magazines and an independent e-magazine. Aside from my passions, I write to competition briefs.

I am a member of The Poetry Society. To date I have completed two of their courses; Poems Revisited: the redrafting process and Language, Voice & Poetic Play. Such experiences have improved my writing skills; I look at a piece from every angle, scrutinise every word and keep the target audience in mind.

  1. I like your site very tranquil and peaceful. Have you tried Journalism or Copywriting? I used to work with events for Microsoft your outgoing personality, presentation skills and multi-tasking abilities are basic grounds in Marketing and in an Events Management workplace. All the best 😀
